Bogus Call Alert

Dear Residents,

I have received the following information from neighbourhood watch:

“I have received reports that a company is ringing Thurrock residents claiming they are Essex Police. They start by saying "Hello this is Essex Police I am working on crime reduction as you know the police no longer attend burglary alarms......"

They then go on to try and sell an alarm system. The person who received the call said they were not interested and the salesperson became quite aggressive.

There are a number of alarm companies recently stating they either work for the police or are a police liaison officer. One of these companies is currently being investigated by Trading Standards for breaching the Telephone Preference Service requirements issued by the ICO.

Police only support NSI approved suppliers - they will not approve any individual company over any other. A list of these NSI companies can be found at www.nsi.org.uk

If you are not sure about the company or wish to report any similar calls, please contact Trading Standards at Thurrock Council on 01375 652652.
