Warning from
Residents are being warned to say no to doorstep callers after an
elderly
The incident happened on Tuesday August 23rd where the resident was charged £120 for the buying and fitting of three door alarms. These alarms are on general sale for around £5 each.
The doorstep caller was described as “forceful” and left no paperwork but simply said he would be back “in six months to check they were all right”. This is in breach of legislation to protect consumers where all services over £35 must offer cancellation rights.
People are reminded that you DO NOT have to agree to anything at your front door. If a caller has outstayed their welcome, just say goodbye and shut your door on them and NEVER let them in to your house unless you have called them in first, and the have the relevant id.
